Design Lines
A design typically uses several types of lines, but generally there is a dominate type of line that contributes to the overall feel of the space. Take a moment to look at these examples, noting their ability to stretch or shrink space.
HORIZONTAL LINEThe eye travels a horizontal line, widening the area. Horizontal lines feel calm and suggest rest and relaxation. Horizontal lines also work well to visually re-adjust the height of a room. |
VERTICAL LINEThe eye travels upward and adds visual height to a room. Vertical lines can be formal and express forcefulness. |
